Allow Input from NEW Players

I know IBIS has been around for quite a while, and we are privileged to have players that have seen both CSS and IBIS grow since it's creation. However, I have noticed that seniority (however valuable in some cases), has made some players closed-minded to outsider's input. I can sympathize with some because I also have watched ZM have suffered in player proficiency (played on a separate account in '10 when ZM was much more skill based than today). We can wish for those times back, but sadly old players who have left may never return.

When I joined the IBIS forums (3 months or so back), I did so to put in my input on forums in order to make IBIS servers even BETTER. Despite my intentions, I (as well as other "new" players) are shot down by "older" players (sometimes for due cause, sometimes without even reading input). If you "older" players actually want to continue to make IBIS servers better, why not LISTEN to other's input, and use critical analysis to either promote or shut down their ideas rather than writing them off with a "and you've been in the server how long...?".

If you are willing to not even pay attention to other players' inputs, you might as well GTFO (and yes, I feel COMPLETELY in my right saying that with only 3 months of server time), because OBVIOUSLY you don't want to see anything develop in the IBIS community if you solely keep to an ever-shrinking group of senior players.

ideas suggested by new people are innately flawed. lack of experience and a shallow knowledge of the rules and inner mechanisms that drive ibis make for poor suggestions. i hate to be one of those guys but it's just true.

actually chef, i think your thread makes a perfect example of what you are essentially whining about!

People post ideas that could damn near be mistaken for an idea made up by a read headed step child, they get pissy when everyone else tells them its horrible (Through critizisim of course). Thread gets closed due to those in favor flaming.

Next time you have an idea, remember that you wont be welcomed with magical pink ponies and care bears but rather an elite group of people who know what the fuck is up.

Im a person who has suggested things in my time here, as seen for example, on the main page.... If someone or a large amount of people disagree with my idea, i dont flame them, i work with them in finding a middle ground that EVERYONE can come to terms with. If the latter is unachievable i simply stop replying and the thread sinks to the depths.

a) If that's the case, then Zero and the other founders are the only ones who have say in this, thus making YOUR "list" invalid, DESU!

a) As I have stated in past with ideas regarding added zombie classes and changes in rules, I WELCOME all opinions and accept what higher-ups decide (though again, this would be Zero if we aren't a democracy, sry Mikey >.<).

a) If this is true, why have we been adding things that have come from new players (i.e. new maps, new rules, new races, etc)? Having added them means that the higher-ups would have needed to find them useful in some form.

a) I wrote a format thread that clearly outlines the formatting issues (or most anyway) for these forums... so why am I being shot down (and before you go off saying "You didn't format that ban correctly!", maynard fixed the ban length that I had no control over.)

Also what the older players think about it does not actually matter that much they are just stating their opinion on any ideas. At the end of the day I am the only one that can actually implement any changes.

Lots of flaming present yes, but very valid arguments as to why the topic opener had a very bad idea. I know this since I'm one of the regulars who attack pretty much all new idea threads concerning zm.

Thanks Mikey, that would definitely help in cutting out any redundancy lol. Just because we have ideas doesn't mean people need or even should listen to them either. Just me living in my little fantasy world :jive:

Being here long than someone is all some of these people have, and the only thing keeping them from taking some 9mm aspirin is that they can oppress others. You'll get used to it, it doesn't matter if you've been here a month or a year; your idea's are terrible and the improvements that the servers require will be overlooked so other things can be broken. Thus is the way. You'll accept it or you'll move on.

Input is allowed from everyone. The forums are open and you can post your ideas, but they arent always seen as practical. Ive been in favor of some pretty good ideas, but in the end...if everyone who had a good idea had it implemented...we would have the most confused servers there are.

People are gonna flame. Thats what people do on forums. The day that zero flames you....then you worry.
