Yea, I dont get to see the stars as well as I did as a kid, should get contacts sometime since glasses only help so much while star gazing.
My sister is working on her masters in space studies, so by proxy I learn quite a bit about it myself.
Also there is a space race of sorts going on, both SpaceX and Virgin Galactic compete with each other.

Certain aspects yes. Like merely going into space and coming back safely. It'll be hard for those private companys to accomplish anything more than that, at least in the foreseeable future.
