Maybe he thinks that IBIS is supposed to have the Egyptian meaning however Thoth can even be transcribed into Christianity as simply the balance of Good and evil. (the primary function of Thoth was to maintain that balance)
In Latin ibis means thou shalt go.
Generally in Latin ibis is used in reference to something that is life long. For example in the famous phrase: "Ibis redibis nunquam in bello morieris" The ibis in this phrase localizes to be "you will go".
