what's shonen vs. senien?

i thought shonen meant "boy", but alot of the ones listed under senien are definately not girl anime. gantz, phantom, phantom fmR...

and some under boy shouldn't be there either, like gurren lagann

Phantom and ~Phantom/etc~ are the same series btw, thats just the full title

Also Gurren Lagann is most definitely a shonen genre. Its probably the most linear and classic representation of what a Shonen series is
