I am pretty sure a couple sites here and there doing a blackout for one day won't change anything. If you spend a lot of time on the internet, you already know whats going on therefor there is no need, if you come to the internet once in a awhile and your site is blackout you go to a different website or try going another day.

Imo, pointless. Now I'm not saying Zero shouldn't, just stating how I feel about this as a whole.
These are the words you wish you wrote down.

I have mixed feelings about this idea. Mostly good though.
Make all your last demands for I will forsake you and I'll meet your eyes for the very first time, for the very last.

. This in its self proves your wrong. You clearly don't have an understanding as to what the black out is and what it entails. Though the site will be down, users will still have access to information regarding why it is down, links to there congress men and women and in depth reason as to why the user should be concerned with this legislation. Just because people are freaquently using the internet does mot mean there avid news and politic goers. Even if they are aware of the situation they may also not know how to voice there opinion, these black outs will provide these user who know what the legislation is a way to voice out. As you are assuming the blackout is merely a site shutdown 503 error that would only mean someone who is watching the news. That is not the case because the goal is to make people aware.

edit: or in non riding the bus using my phone, "Quote of Dj Mikey via Facebook - This black out will do good in helping American citizens understand exactly what is going on and most importantly giving them the tools and resources to contact there state governments. To shed some light on a dire situation, these bills would fundamentally change the foundation of the internet. It is extremely important and would behoove all of us to network and make vocal what these bills are about!"

I agree to a black out... if this is pertaining to Sopa...

The SOPA act is probably the worst thing our government has tried to pass since prohibition.
A bill that claims to be directed at internet piracy is going to hand over total censorship control of the internet to the US government.
I can't express how much everyone needs to make themselves aware of this issue before its to late....

Stop Online Piracy Act, the primary intent of which would be to shut down foreign websites guilty of copyright infringement.
Except the bill is so broadly worded and clumsily phrased that, if enacted, it would effectively hand over censorship of the entire Internet to American businesses,
and the entertainment industry in particular. Incidentally, it was lobbyists for the entertainment industry who wrote this bill in the first place. -cracked.com

Wikipedia is currently showing the following when you try and use the site...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special...submit=Look+up

    Call your elected officials.
Tell them you are their constituent, and you oppose SOPA and PIPA.

    Why?
SOPA and PIPA cripple the free and open internet. They put the onus on website owners to police user-contributed material and call for the blocking of entire sites,
even if the links are not to infringing material. Small sites will not have the sufficient resources to mount a legal challenge.
Without opposition, large media companies may seek to cut off funding sources for small competing foreign sites, even if big media are wrong.
Foreign sites will be blacklisted, which means they won't show up in major search engines.

In a post SOPA/PIPA world, Wikipedia—and many other useful informational sites—cannot survive in a world where politicians regulate the Internet based on the influence of big money in Washington.
It represents a framework for future restrictions and suppression. Congress says it's trying to protect the rights of copyright owners,
but the "cure" that SOPA and PIPA represent is much more destructive than the disease they are trying to fix.
