View Full Version : Anyone good with computers?

So I just got a virus on my computer (no I did not download porn and got the virus) it's my work computer. There was an email sent to my corporate email address from like
[email protected], I assumed it was a legit BBB credit thing or a complaint that came through. So I opened it, and what do you know, it's a fucking virus that won't let me open any programs.
So I tried to factory restore it, so it's pretty much new.. I did the restore, restore went smoothly, updating system went smoothly, but when it came to actually starting up and the computer updates (common updates), it shuts down at like 48%, and the computer shuts off. When I turn on the computer, this message pops up "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. windows installation cannot proceed." Now I can't even get passed this stage. Only stage I can get to is back to the recovery management, by pressing ALT + F10.
Few information about the computer:
it's a eMachines - don't tell me "yeah that's where you fucked up".
i believe it has a SD card in there, extra graphics card. - could any of these offset the restart process?
Help would be greatly appreciated, and asap! Because my business re-opens in about 12 hours, and I have 10 hours to get it fixed.
Graci,

You should have started your computer on safe mode to stop the virus from getting in to the registry.
The only solution I know of is to get a new computer.
There might be another way but you will still lose all of your files and everything else.
So give your computer some laxatives and wipe everything off because it is too late to salvage your files.

I already got all the information i needed from the computer, then did the hard factory restore. Now I can't even get passed it now.

Sorry but there is nothing that you can do NOTHING at all or your computer glitched and the operating system just wont install but that is NOT VERY LIKELY.
Or you did not use the operating system install disk correctly.
Any way good luck and you might want to call tech support not ask people on a forum.
But don't expect to ever get your files back.
But you could get your computer back before the deadline.
GOOD LUCK

Does "factory restore" mean you reformatted the hard drive?
phil.™

Call tech support the clocks ticking.
Last time i checked factory reset means you wipe the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

if reformatting doesn't work then it's either a really kickass virus and can't be deleted or it doesn't reside on your hdd at all.

Walk away from the computer completely while you reformat don't look at it or check it at all. I have a good idea what it is and it's only because you are retarded. Trust me.

Trust me.
I'm actually 100% srs.
You need to reformat. A factory reset DOES NOT do that. You need a windows install disc to reformat and reinstall windows. Then after you have done that go buy NOD32 so this shit does not happen again.

if it is your "work computer" and you have a "corporate email address" try I dunno... letting someone who knows wtf they are doing handle it?

An incorporated entity with no IT department -- this is the issue you need to tackle first.

I might have narrowed it down.
I believe the virus has gotten to my Bios, now I need to re-flash my Bios.
How might one do this?

The virus did not go into your bios. You do not work for the CIA or do you....
This is like my car stopped working and rather than put more gas in I go oh the car has a bomb in it and that is why it does not work.
You have yet to reformat the system and until you do it is not going to go away. :banghead:

Fix your PC for a tint job? Mwahahaha....The virus could be residing in the MBR. It is possible to fix it without a reformat if not entirely bad. To me it sound's like some nasty ass mal-ware. As Zero stated, a restore does not do shit but what it says... Restore system files. Formating is easyyyy.... BIOS Virus's are nasty and mainly used for pure destruction and extremely high level sneaky things.... better take care of that fast (Doubtful).

Yea follows zeros advice, though Nod32 is a bit much, Norton has some absolutely amazing enterprise products as well as a few other companies, look into them.
A good roundup of consumer level anti virus proctection, though it is a year old, I need to resubscribe to MPC sometime

xD found one a year older
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/ultimate_antivirus_guide_10_top_programs_reviewed
thats not what I was looking for.
I would be willing to bet that they will do another roundup sometime in the coming months. looking at the dates those where made
anyways reformat (not factory reset) and get one of these and Never EVER say you use common sense, because if you do I will say you have none and have no right to try to use that as your anti virus, It is by far one of the stupidest thing I ever read. Its like saying pulling out is an adaquit form of birth control and prevents the spread of stds. It just does not work like that.
And I will sit here waiting for someone, who seems to pretend codes dont change from version to version, to call out that norton sucks. So I can point and laugh because I got tired of telling people the code has drastically changed since 08
Edit: complacently off topic, the guy behind McAfee, John McAfee, is on the run from murder charges xD http://gizmodo.com/5959812/john-mcafee-wanted-for-murder

You need to play it smart so that you don't waste a decent PC, so follow these steps:
1- Buy a MAC
2- Smash your computer with said MAC
3- Return that crappy MAC back to the store.
4- Learn the Amish culture.
Problem solved.
You can thank me with some butter, don't ask questions, just make me some damn organic butter!

Preach it, brother.

Organic butter tastes much better than the inorganic variety. :wtg:
I'm also in agreement with the shitty mac thing... macs are nothing but tool kits for designers.

Steamer I will take that offer if I cannot get it fixed by the time monthly tax comes. But as most of you know, in game "minjae.jjang" works with me, he's my computer guy and he is on the verge of getting through this damn virus, but if he can't, steamer, I will tint your car for free in exchange of fixing my computer. (I also work part time at John Hopkins hospital who has IT people offering the same offer, but I rather give it to you).
Starmine, thanks for the info!
Cyber... Mac? Really?
