Yeah it's today and anyone can join. They did say that there may be some connectivity issues since they're trying to purposely stress out the servers and they're working on the game as we play.

What's the farthest any of you have gotten in the game and what do you think of everything so far?

Looking for something new to play but it's been my opinion that the relationship between hype and how good it is, is inversly proportional.

Well, sin and I have taken our time and explored along the way..there are SO many things to see and do. The furthest we have been is level 22 I believe. We haven't ventured further than the 15-25 areas, but the game is just glorious in terms of scenery. Along the way there are puzzles, vistas, events, merchants, hearts, mini games, crafting blah blah blah. If you're looking for a game that will take a while to explore and challenge you to jump and climb to the top of every hill or castle..this is it. The combat is awesome.

Maybe I'm biased..but I love it.

^ Good to hear. I'm in the same boat as Chikun on this. Been keeping my eye on this thread and the site news since EotN, honestly looking for them to keep it simple like the original pack (kinda turned off by expansions after factions) . But yeah, based on previous posts, I'm pretty set on getting it when it goes live (betas never tickled my fancy to be honest). Super stoked about the graphics though! By far that was my favorite aspect that set it apart from some of the other similar games out there.

the problem with your plan is that Arena nets community is vewry tight. There isnt a forum community out there like the guild wars community. Watching the forums isnt going to do much as the devs for the game fix things on the fly when an issue arises. any whining will be from players who dislike a certain aspect of the game, which is normal for any game. To be honest.. iv never beta tested a game that was as flawless as these beta tests are.

Edit: also, the devs goals and ambitions are alot more pure then other games and development teams. i honestly think gross income and beating competition is the last thing on there mind. Expect an amazing game that was made for players.

i feel like between the exploration, random events, various pvp modes...there's going to be enough variety. that's what wow had originally, vanilla and tbc took the mmorpg genre and added a lot to it, giving the game variety and a lot of playability. now it's gw2's turn to do the same, and with everything they have coming, i think it'll be a great game. i never touched swtor cuz it reminded me of warhammer online. just trying to do the same thing as wow, but with a few tweaks. gw2 is certainly going in a different direction within the same genre, and though many games have tried that, i haven't seen one as ambitious or (so far) successful as this one.

Yeah but they probably didnt have ahuge enough turnout for stress tests, or even BWE, to accurately depict the amount of people. You think its bad now? Wait until monday. Omg its going to be ashitstorm. I remember the first BWE...same kind of issues...it was resolved quickly..as arenanet is very good at fixing problems fast (from what i can tell).

Many people are having the same kind of issues, which should give you hope that it will be top priority.

But this is all to be expected atleast for like another few days if anything, all games that comeout for pc lag like this from the stress of large amounts of people trying to access their servers at one time, the game is amazing though, simply awesome so far(altho im freaking lost somewere in the starting area after climbing stairs for half an hour into mid air)

Found an exploit..shh. If you get to the first half of morgan's spiral (where the spiders are that are trainable)..you can open the chest twice if you open it once in the main map and once in an overflow. This can be done multiple times actually, if you join different overflows upon login.

After 2 days of the game (but only about 3-4 hours logged with work and all...), gotta say I dig it completely XD. Loads to do, many quests, random events as you're wandering (like one second you're walking to another event, then a swarm of 12+ players following a dude and all this random shyt like risen undead pop up like freakin' daisies! It's CRAZY o.O!!!).

Gotta say though, this is better to start with a couple friends... just cus they can answer some of the basic stupid questions (ex. WHERE THE HELL IS A BANK?!). But seriously, where do you go to start crafting stuff? Is there different subclasses like cooking, mining, crafting, etc. like in WoW? Lemme know if anyone is up to start a new character :wtg: (can't handle all this... solitude >.>)

Lol there is too much to do in the game xD one min I'm heading to a crafting bench... The next I got sidetracked and discovered all the POI and Vistas... Anyway the crafting is usually in town and you will have to look for the little symbols, the bank can be accessed there and if you have to much stuff go to bag, click the gear, then click deposit collectibles. Also carry 1-2 salvage kits to break down gear

No problem there... first merchant I went to around the starting point, I was looking to buy a basic one for breaking down 1-2 items i had found (this was about 15 min into gameplay), ended up spending like 1platinum on 25 kits o.O. Mikey you're a faggot. Right now we're juggling between Northern Shiverpeaks and Henge of Denravi. I hope the free server transfers are active for a few weeks. It's just so hard to tell at launch, which server will be thriving come a month or two from now, when people start quitting because they rushed to 80 and realized there is no typical "endgame".

ATM Northern Shiverpeaks has a huge queue to get onto the main server and into WvW, and it seems like Gates of Madness has about the same amount of population/guilds registered. I don't know about you guys, but I don't like to wait 5+ hours just to jump into WvW...

It's a toss up, since there is no middle ground right now. Either servers are capped out (huge queues), or have a shitty population (no queues but WvW falters because of it).

Finally, no matter how fantastic a game’s music is, when you hear the same music for the thousandth time, you start wanting to change things up a bit. Many players will simply turn the game music off and play their own collections. The problem is that an external music player has no context as to what’s going on in-game. Guild Wars 2 will offer a solution for this as well. We’re giving players the option of choosing external music playlists that the game’s audio engine will use as a replacement for the default in-game music. Players can choose different playlists for background ambience and battle music, for instance. Additionally, when appropriate, such as during cinematics, the game can revert back to in-game music temporarily to give the best possible cinematic experience, then resume the custom playlist when it’s done.

Go to (Your Name) (Documents) (Guild Wars 2) (Music) in this folder you can place up to 8 playlists in here. (.m3u) (.wpl) The playlist names must be named what you want the playlist to be over. (You have to make the files yourself). These names are Ambient, NightTime, Battle, BossBattle, Underwater, City, Crafting, and MainMenu. Enjoy!

When you save your playlist, save it into the specific folder directly.

So, does anyone still play this? Why or why not?... Just curious, as i havent seen or heard from anyone playing it in a while. FYI, new update coming on the 15th with new content.

I played for the halloween event, and the things they added were all pretty epic. They added an instanced jumpimg puzzle which was kind of like a race against the clock, as well. Very fun, but difficult as shit.

Overall though, i think the game is boring for lvl 80s right now, unless youre going to spend countless hours grinding for your legendary, or really into pvp.

They nerfed the shit out of inferno, and added some new shit and made a lot of positive changes... so I've been kinda addicted 2 that. will prob get back into GW2 when I buy my new PC in the new year.

Ownsie is maxxed i think. Whereas i've only had 4 days of learning and playing. So im at a lv 25 now. (Wasted some time on 4 other alts that i got till lv 8 each just for the hell of it).
Trying to see if i can fast level to lv 40ish till then.

my recommendation: crafting. crafting and exploration. ignore the main quest for the most part. i've gotten most of my 42 levels from crsfting (leatherworking is decently cheap to level) don't bother mass-making, just use discovery (one thing i made, gave me like, 2 levels of ACTUAL xp.)

But as for aco, crafting is the hardest thing i've seen in game... Confusing as fuck, and i almost never have ANY valid materials.... Or i have to buy them for expensive items with my moolah....

Heck i tried tailoring (i'm light armor), jewelry (made myself 2 copper rings, thats it), and even armorsmithing bcos im running a staff... Confusing shit...

And wikis didnt help explaining what to grind in crafting cheaply.

However i've noticed that my dtory lone actually gave me 2 levels at lv 20+ , and i only did 4 instances!

I will say this, crafting is really, really easy, once you get used to it. I got used to it around level 30, and boy is it expensive if you buy mats, in the 100's. Farming mats is not fun i can give you that, and most of the time its not worth the item that you make since it costs more to make than it sells for, but its a great way to level quick if ur bored or stuck.

For those that asked, this is my AFK build: i.e it's a build i can have an go make myself some food or do some ibis work while my character is afk aggroing 7 mobs at a time and not going down once.

Basically it revolves around the aegis block/burn/heal combo, and other skills that grant me blocking or healing.
I swap my utilities to 3 signets : increased heal, condition and reduced damage. just for when im afk.

When im PLAYING in pve, and want to get somewhere, i pop in the healing Signet with passive condition remove, "Retreat", "Save yourselves" and a sword at utility 9, i use my azura golem at slot 0 for pve, but most usually use tome of courage on Jormag or fungeons.
When I get to my target, such as dungeon, or guild bounty, etc, i sometimes swap my heal for the block/healing one with larger cooldown, but more sinergy with my burns, i pop in Consecration of purity fire field (yeay for more stacked burns!), and my SPIRIT hammer for utilities 7 and 8 ( now i have a combo field for my jumps and swirls) and a hammer and sword.

In dungeons/jormag ONLY i swap my consecration field for the Shelter dome for heal/field control, and i swap my hammer for a spirit bow for cond removal and shatter it for heals and swap my sword for the healing signet which increases my healing passively, and if activated, can revive a downed ally, very very gd in dungeons in which u have time to wait for cooldowns.

20 0 30 20 0 (i used to run 20 0 10 20 20 until i got my grandmaster traitbook... and Altruistic healing in toughness 30 is soooooo fucking OP, especially with my healing spec and shouts)

The Zeal line is for the condition duration mostly, i pop in a LOT and i mean a LOTTTTTTTT of burns, and i want them to last forever considering my gear is very condition dmg oriented.

30 points in toughness for altruistic healing, i don't really like the lower traits much, but A.H is way worth it...

20 in vitality, my guarian relies a lot of passive healing and skills healing me, including my dodge-roll heals, which i THINK heal me for about 500hp per dodge. Add that to "gain vigor on crit" and u can dodge more...

I m considering movign some points from zeal to radiance in order to up my precision slightly. It wont ruin my build that much considering that it also adds condition DMG which is what my build is for. In fact, i have 30 crit dmg wasted from toughness bcos my crit rate is low...
but The % in crits is NOT for the damage, but for activating "empored might" mini trait which allows me to gain vigor on crit, allowing me more rolls and therefore more heals (which are gained by surrounding allies as well).
Not to mention that i could pop a sigil of battle and of might on my main set and 1 of my secondary weapons, allowing me to gain might on swap and to gain might on crit.

The points i removed from power will be compensated by those "might" boons, and because they ARE boons, on myself, they also count towards my altruistic healing, which gives me about 79hp per boon PULSE.

Save yourselves gives me about 10(?) extra boons and retreat can give 2 boons to 5 allies. if i pop both of these and assume i get 3 mights from my weapon swapping? + 14 stacks of staff 4 mights + regeneration to 5 allies nearby when staff 4 finishes stacking? (i use staff-stacking just before a battle and swap back to my scepter/focus.) ... add that also to my symbols that grant regen + 2 minimum boons + my dodge roll regens to 5 allies nearby? and my aegis that cycles every 20ish seconds? (assume 3 per minute) which also grant me heal and retaliation when they are used?

Math:
10 boons to me + 5x2 boons to allies + 3 mights + 14 staff + 5 regens + 2 symbols x (regen + retaliation/speed boons)x 5 players in dungeon + 2x dodge rollsx 5 allies + 3 aegis *(1 regen + 1 retal)= 10 +10+3+14+5+2*3*5 + 2*5 + 3*2= 88 cycled boons (that's without any runes or sigils or traits activating, and without me actually hitting ANYTHING)

multiply those boons by 79hp per boon, and i just recycled roughly 7k health to myself at least twice per minute by being close to allies, ONLY using altruistic healing... it makes up for the fact that our healing skills are kinda long cooldown... You see now why i invested in A.H so much? I could also pop in a mace-healer for extra heals as well.

Anyway... This is my current build, again, i might swap some ZEAL for Radiance, but for people that DIDNT max YET? that's an easy spec to go by.
Put points in all the minor traits till uget master book ( health is ur best weapon), and put those leftover 10 points in any trait until u get grandmaster.
This is subject to tweaking. and also remember that with this build, u can swap ur major traits before and after any battle without changing distribution... this is good when u want to swap between aegis boosts and symbol boosts in the "honor" line for example.

Note: i use greatsword + scepter/focus mostly for mele/range-kiting. ( that focus 5 skill blocks 3 attacks => 3 extra burns + explodes with combo finisher => condition removal OR area might, and dnt forget... each boon heals me.
I only swap my focus with a torch when im doing a world boss like Golem, and im just putting in some dps... or when standing afk cycling zealot flame on auto for whoever attacks me close range.
Sword 3 is NICE, but i need a ranged weapon my guardian.
mace is fun for dungeons and those heals...

IMPORTANT; staff is gd wvw, but "meh" pve EXCEPT for mobility (that staff 3 is amazing for speed rushes + retreat + save urselves in THAT order , 1 second apart? gives me 45ish seconds of 50% speed and all skills recycle merely 8 seconds after allll my speeds stopped. so its good for covering maps fast.
I also pop in an "empower" staff 4 + staff 3 under allies/enemies, just before i swap it for my scepter focus before each fight. i guess staff is also gd for "tagging" many people for looting, but dnt expect much dps on it, + i hate the fucking skill1 effect on staff, if it was more animated and lets u SEE the cone u attack, it would be better than the "poof" effect they have now that is counter intuitive for knowing if u gonna hit or no...

There's no FIXED build with guardian... u're gonna be cycling through traits, skills, and utilities ESPECIALLY weapons a LOT... but u'll get used to it, it becomes mechanic, just like knowing what items to buy on which race in wcs depending on how much money u have and enemy gameplay... but these are the things i noticed to use the most.
