    Consumer reports?

Ford is one of the great American companies, I have no clue what he is talking about.

Seriously hallwanger you have no idea what you are talking about.

You say Ford is unreliable but then say Mazda is good? Ford makes mazda's you retard.

I'm with Masta on this, Ford is my #1.

Also a car is only as reliable as you make it. Sure some cars make it easier then others, but once again you have to know what engines are going in what.

Chrylser's 2.5l engine is probably the worse engine ever.
Ford's 4.6 and v10 are really good, there 5.4 are not.
GM's v6's and heavy duty engines like 5.7's and up are good. The rest arn't.
Honda can make a wonderful 4cyl engine, anything else and they are problematic, same with Toyota.
BMW's v6 are probably the best in the world, there v8's - v10's(new) and v12's are probably the scariest.
VW can make a decent engine but there auto transmissions are crap.
Mercedes are very heavily electronically oriented.
    etc etc...

There are pro's and con's with all car makers. Saying American cars are crap and to buy a toyota and a honda just because they are flat better is ignorant and shows your overall knowledge of cars which probably stems from just commercials.

Probably some of the best cars on the road right now and anywhere is the ford fusion and any Hyundai.

And just saying, "why dont you buy a cheap civic?" Sure... if he can't afford 900$ to repair, he isn't going to be buying no civic for less, maybe a high mileage 88' civic.

The best advice for him was to go get his own BCM and learn how to fix it himself.
These are the words you wish you wrote down.

    CORRECT!!!

Ford's 4.6 and v10 are really good, there 5.4 are not.
the 5.4 is a forged internal block. one of the most reliable in performance and towing.

GM's v6's and heavy duty engines like 5.7's and up are good. The rest arn't.
the 5.3 v8 that replaced the 5.7 makes the same hp/tq with less wear and tear, also better mileage

Honda can make a wonderful 4cyl engine, anything else and they are problematic, same with Toyota.
    Correct

BMW's v6 are probably the best in the world, there v8's - v10's(new) and v12's are probably the scariest.
BMW are known for the STRAIGHT 6 nor v6. Also, BMW are overpriced too. Also. the audi W12 i believe is better. but that is just opinion there lol

VW can make a decent engine but there auto transmissions are crap.
    once again correct.

Mercedes are very heavily electronically oriented.
    etc etc...
    and overpriced.

Correct. thanks to idiots who went and saw F&F and then looked at there shitty civics and integras and thought, "I got a fuckin race car" anything honda now is overpriced by 2 grand on average

The best advice for him was to go get his own BCM and learn how to fix it himself.

Yes Perry BMW's are inline 6's. I forgot >< when typing this.

the W12 is most likely better, by scary I mean are SUPER expensive to fix and arn't that good.

Still not sure about the 5.4. Perhaps just different experiences.

the engine isnt the only thing that factors into a cars reliability dumbass. mazda hasnt always been owned by ford as far as i know, maybe recently, but im talking before 2000. and buying a 2000 or so honda civic is a much better idea than a 93 plymouth grand voyager in terms of cost. factoring in repair costs and frequency, gas mileage, and costs that are not financial, such as convenience, enjoyment, and size. 88 civic is way too old and depending on the condition of the voyager and how much extra cash you have, you should be able to get a much better car than your current one. and i know the fusion is a great car, im talking about manufacturer averages. ford has some good models and some bad ones. but in terms of overall reliability, japanese cars are proven to be better as a whole. most of the engines you listed for american brands as being good, were 6 cylinders or more, not a great idea for money saving
