My point was that for his use the quality of the headphones should be much much more important than having an amazing mic. He is only trying to have his voice heard without background noise and a cheep $2 mic will do just that. As far as having a place to set it you can buy a clip on mic that works well too.
The other important note is those people with "crappy" mics are usually using more expensive usb mics or headsets. Basically all mics <$50 that people are buying for these purposes are the same quality wise. What is making the difference is the DSP they are connected to followed by the local EMI followed by there configuration.
As far as Plantronics goes this was in reference to their higher lines that used to be very popular in the pro leagues back when I was in cal.
