Thread: Looking for new MMO

  1. Default

GW1 is not a MMORPG and anyone whose actually been involved with the mmorpg community over the last decade and on knows that. You can argue based on the literal wording of "MMORPG" that it is... but it's only people making a desperate plea who try and do so. What blew people off their asses when MMORPG's started was the fact you were in a on going/changing environment with hundreds/thousands of other players.... so shit was always going on... when that concept first hit, it was mind blowing... it's why the genre blew up and became what it was. If you leave town... and there are no random people questing, exploring, fighting etc... it's not a MMORPG... it's basically a RPG with multiplayer/group capabilities, nothing more.

GW2 is a great game... but it's far from any landmark in the MMORPG genre. Amazing 60 dollar game.... but does not reinvent the wheel or the genre.

WoW was crazy good back in the day. But after you do the "long" grind to the max level it takes you roughly a week worth of playing nights only to be completely geared besides Arena/End Game gear. I've done that the past 2 expansions. Paid a month, loged on, enjoyed the new questing area, hit max level, was completely geared by the end of the next weekend. Then all there is to do is level up stupid professions( to try and make a lil money) or get into arenas(only require an hour and a half to complete) or end game raid which is a FUCKING JOKE compaired to how it used to be. And even if there is someone so simple minded as to argue with that, I don't want to "have to" game until 12 to 1 in the morning or risk being booted from the guild.

Back on topic, I think GW2 will be a good fit. Something new to try out and drag my friends into. Is there anything I'll need to know just starting out?

nonono Guardian, by far the best class in the game!!!!! Versatile and great utility. Easily switch from high DPS self healing to self healing tank to ranged kiting OMFG its like sex!

Also from my experience, it is great in pvp depending on how you play. If you like killing players, maybe not your first pvp choice, if you like tanking objectives and loling at the enemy as they slash away at you... great choice then.

I made one of each profession.i agree about guardian.

Guardian was my first to 80 and its probably my strongest. And if u run dungeons people WANT you in their party due to the amount of heals/boons u diss out ... The weird part is that u'd actually ENJOY supporting them bcos that returns back to u for more self-healing and dps.

Mikey said it best, it has the best utilities in game, and u can have more than 7 different types of builds with only a few swaps. Guardian scepter+ scepter focus is leet for pve...same but swap the scept for sword or mace or double hammer for pvp or dugeons depending on ur build and game stage

My second favorite is thief. Strong skills and gets powerful in time.

Mesmers and elementalists are fun but VERY VERY fragile... And if u just mash buttons? u gonna die. I spent half the time trying to stand up until i learned to properly play the race. Necro was my first created race, but i didnt like it much until i rerolled it again...

And i still prefer guardian>thief>mesmer> ele>necro>warrior>ranger>engineer.... But personally warrior was boring, engineer was bad, ranger was 'meh'... Hope that helps!

Mesmers and elementalest are not fragile, they may have light armor set but a mesmer uses his illusions for confusion and dps. While an elementalist stays alive by keeping shit ton of boons on all the time and with the right set up they can tank a shit ton.

And please dont get him in the mind set that warrior is boring/engineer is bad/and ranger is 'meh'. Just because you don't like them or suck at them doesn't that he wont like them.

The other day i got roflstomped by an engineer, and i saw a ranger on my team dueling a guardian then was about to get ganked by a thief and ended up downing and killing both(ya shut up i was just watching ._.).

All Ive seen in GW2 is a UBER casual MMORPG that damn near anyone can easily get into... I don't see any skill required for it and all this about combat never being the same or repetitive? and you never doing the same things twice? well.... I don't think you've played it much.... cause that's far from true.

and no I'm not saying it's a bad MMORPG... it's quite entertaining... and given it's a 60 dollar game with no monthly fee... I think that in it's self is awesome and it's probably one of the best 60 dollar games ever in terms of bang for your buck... shit when I'm done typing this, I'm gonna jump on and play ^^ But it's not a hard MMORPG by any means.
