In most cases i would laugh at your joke, but as far as this game goes....

At least from GW1 i know that lag was never an issue no matter what channel you are in, if it was lag, it was either you personally or the game its self.

GW2 will be doing the same thing
3 servers, if im not mistaken, where you can join diffrent channels ie American district 1-10 - European district 1-10.
lag was never an issue with me when playing in the euro district, never noticed it either.

When it comes to PvP, gear should never outweigh skill. Whether it's in rotation, ability prep, stat prep, movement, speed of key presses, strategic knowledge, etc...

I never understood why some people view "I played this game for years, I got all this cool stuff, so I should win every time," as the end-all be-all in MMO games. I can understand it to an extent, you know, some gear giving slightly better stats if you spent years to get it, but not an exponential increase. And why should vertical gear progression even be considered in PvP in an MMO?

Yeah yeah, "if you want skill-based competition go play a FPS", that argument is soooooo 1999, when PKing was actually worth something. Times change, and I hope most developers follow this content progression idea in the future. I know Funcom is already going the same route with Secret World.

Maybe NCSoft will do the same with Wildstar!

Gets me all moist thinking about it.

There, where mountains tower today, one day there will be seas; there where today seas surge, will one day be deserts. But stupidity will remain stupidity."

yes it should! which is why it has in 95% of all MMORPG's that have ever existed have done this.

having the best gear also doesn't necessarily mean you will win, but it does help obviously. I don't know why you complain about grinding and gear all the time and then go on about how epic ultima online was... makes no sense.

MMORPG's have always been about time invested... the more time you invest, the better your jobs, gear and anything else the game offers becomes...

all i see with the GW2 PVP system is a system that wants 2 cater 2 noobs who don't want 2 actually invest any time in if they want 2 be an actual competitive force come end game pvp.

People enjoy going for the best gear in MMO's and working long and hard for it... it's why MMORPG's have always been so successful cause you have such strong feeling of progression and character pride.

an equal playing feild pvp style for all just seems like what a noob who doesn't want 2 actually invest any time into the game would want....

Don't try and re-invent the wheel when it rolls perfectly fine... all though I don't see there pvp system as them trying 2 make MMORPG's better... it's clearly just a tactic 2 bring in more casual players... and in the end make more money.

though what you say may hold true with games that require subscribers, it does not with guild wars. Gw has always been about organized guilds and real world prizes I.e. 100000$ cash prize.

Guildwars 2 might lack the gear progression some grind hungry soul might want to express how "good" they are, it makes up for in skill progression. Unlocking essential abilities, nodding your armor with specific runes for your specific build, and unique weapons that are better then others.

PvP in Gw is not about who grinded the longest, it is about putting players on a equal playing field and proving that you are in fact a better player. Not because of gear but because of talent.

Besides, its an amazing business model for them. They successfuly found a median between heavy grind and hard core players and casuals.

wouldn't it ultimately still be a grind though cause like you said, GW is about your skills and the best ones take longer 2 get... so in the end wouldn't it really be replacing a gear grind with a skill grind?

at the end of the day yes, but builds haven't been made yet, players will start customizing and naming builds they come up with, some might only require 3-4 skills some may require skills cap-able only by raid bosses ect. Tbh, if GW2 is anything like GW1 in grind respect, most of the grind will be titles, bragging rights for time spent in game and skill, emotes to show off ect.
